Douglas- Katherine “Kay” F. (Stefaniak) McLaughlin, 95, passed away on Sun. July 1, 2018 at home peacefully. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, James F. McLaughlin in 1991.

She is survived by her daughter Kathryn Aldrich and her husband Ralph of Douglas; her son, James F. Jr. and his wife, Debbie of New Market, TN; four grandsons, Eric and Sean Aldrich, and Matthew and James McLaughlin, as well as several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her beloved dog Billy, whom she loved dearly. She is predeceased by four siblings; Annie Greene, Steven Stefaniak, Michael Stefaniak, and Mary Green.

Born in Douglas on June 27, 1923, she was the daughter of Albert and Anna (Hutnak) Stefaniak and lived in Douglas most of her life. She was a Douglas High School graduate and the class salutatorian. A homemaker, Kay enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting, reading, and playing cards. She was a lifelong member of St. Denis Church. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt who gave so much love to so many. She will be treasured forever in our hearts.

Words cannot express the family’s gratitude to her Salmon Hospice team. All her needs were met with great compassion and respect. Their support was invaluable. Thank you- Julie, Katherine, Brian, and Jason, we will never forget your kindness.

Her funeral Mass will be held on Sat. July 7 at 10 am in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St., Douglas. Burial will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Uxbridge at a later date. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kay’s memory may be made to Dog Orphans, 90 Webster St., Douglas MA 01516.
