Uxbridge- Mr. Gerald “Gerry” Skeean passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the age of 74.
Gerald Skeean is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Skeean.
He was also survived by children, Debra Cleveland and her husband, Lewis, Catherine Anderson and her husband, Bill, Gerald C. Skeean and his fiancé Jan Griffin, and David Skeean; 4 brothers, Ronnie, Michael, Dan, and Bill; and 4 sisters, Lorna, Janet, Merry, and Debra; his cherished 8 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Eleanor Skeean of Worcester.
Gerald was born on July 2, 1943 in Worcester, MA to Clayton and Eleanor Skeean, he was a graduate of Northeastern University and was a professional Businessman in the community,
for over 40 years. He married Betty Skeean, the love of his life in 1962. After moving to Uxbridge,
he began his real estate career and established his own business. Over 17 years, the couple
welcomed 4 children into their home and Gerald set about teaching them the importance of hard
work and dedication to family. When describing his father, his son (David) says, “he’s kind,
wonderful, and the best dad ever.” His children remember him as a passionate and spiritual father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
At age 17, Gerry joined the U.S Marines, and was later selected for an elite unit, and was awarded a very high security clearance. He was always proud of his service, and his experience with the Corps was instrumental in shaping the man he became. In more recent years, Gerry had a great love for his fellow marines in the Marine Corps League Detachment 911. He enjoyed working with them in their service to the community and truly considered them his “band of brothers”. We know he would send you all a hearty “Semper Fi Marine”!
He was a quiet giver and private individual who loved community involvement and who was passionate about helping those in need, whatever their station in life. He served on the board of the Crown and Eagle for over thirty years, at times serving as Director. He was a longtime charter member of the B.V. Heritage Homecoming Committee, and an active and dedicated member of St. Mary’s Church, who often volunteered as a Charter member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He considered how he served his God and his family to be his greatest accomplishments. The family would like to thank the Marine Corps League Detachment 911 for their loving concern, for their brother Marine. And, a heartfelt Thank You to Dr. Barnard and his team at UMass Memorial Hospital.
His funeral is scheduled for Wed. June 27 at 10am in St. Mary’s Church, 77 Mendon St., Uxbridge. Rev. Nicholas Desimone will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gerald’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: Toys for Kids and Teens, C/O Bill Audette, 78 East St., Whitinsville, MA  01588. I have had the pleasure of knowing Gerry for many years as a friend and a fellow director of The Crown and Eagle and The Virginia Blanchard Memorial Housing. I always counted of him when it came to getting the right information in order to make the right decision for the benefit of our tenants. He will be missed by many including myself. You have served your country, community and most important our Lord to the best of your ability. Rest In Peace my friend.
