Douglas- John P. “Johnny” Kleya, 90, passed away on Wed. Dec. 13, 2017 at the Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge after a brief illness. He was a former and longtime resident of Crescent Manor Rest Home in Grafton.

He is survived 3 sisters; Alice Larson and her husband James of Douglas, Elaine Sughrue and her husband Jack of Whitinsville, and Janice Colorio of Sutton, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his longtime companion Jean Kennedy, a brother Joseph F. Kleya Jr., and a sister Anne Bouvier. Born on May 31, 1927 he was the son of Joseph F. Kleya Sr. and Anna E. (Maniak) and lived in Douglas most of his life.

He served in the US. Navy during the WWII era as Seaman Second Class and was stationed in Texas. He worked as a Foreman for the State Highway Dept. for many years. Johnny was also an active member of the American Legion Charles A. Rice Post 33 in Uxbridge, and was a devout Catholic. He loved children, and especially his nieces and nephews. He will be remembered as a very kind and positive man, never with a complaint and always with a smile.

His funeral home service will take place on Fri. Dec 29 at 11am in Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St., Whitinsville. Burial will follow in St. Denis Cemetery, Douglas. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held prior from 10-11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Johnny’s memory may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
