Douglas-William J. Guertin, 90 of Douglas, formerly of Bellingham died Sun. Nov. 1, 2015 after a very brief illness. He was the husband of 68 years to the late Irma A. (Gould) Guertin.
He is survived by 3 sons, Franciscan Brother Christian J. Guertin of Springfield, Ill, Michael P. Guertin of Uxbridge, and Peter B. Guertin of Douglas; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a brother Omer “Pat” Guertin of N. Smithfield; 2 sisters Rita Ferry of Sutton and Anne Beausoleil of Millbury; and several nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by 2 sons Richard W. Guertin and William J. Guertin.
Bill was a US Navy WWII veteran, stationed in the S. Pacific on Tinian and Saipan Island with the 121st SeaBee Battalion. He was a member of the VFW in Douglas and the American Legion in Bellingham. He worked as a carpenter with the maintenance crew at Dennison Manufacturing in Framingham for 30 years, retiring in 1988. Bill had a great love for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed the family hunting cabin, which he and his sons built in Vermont with his wife, children, and many friends. He also loved gardening over the years. Bill was formerly a member of St. Anne’s Church in Manchaug and later St. Denis in Douglas.
His funeral will be held Wed. Nov. 4 from Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St. Douglas with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Church Ave. Northbridge. Cremation burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wed.
