William Lannon Obituary

William E. Lannon, beloved husband, father of 3 and grandfather of 5, passed away on Sunday, January 1st, 2023 at UMass Medical Center after a battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome.

He was born on December 18th, 1945 to Maurice and Emma (Rock) Lannon in Rutland, Vermont and lived in different parts of the Mid-Atlantic before settling down in Northbridge. He graduated from Northbridge High School, Class of 1964. He is survived by his wife Janice (Lapointe) Lannon with whom he was married for 53 years. He is also survived by his children, Emma L. Lannon of Whitinsville, Kenneth C. Lannon and his wife, Heather (Lareau) of Sterling, and Daniel F. Lannon and his wife, Lori (Lachapelle) of Northbridge; his grandchildren, Allison, Madeleine, Grace, Juliette and Jack; his brothers, Michael Lannon and his wife, Paula of Rutland, VT, and Christopher Lannon and his wife Donna, of Sutton, as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, John Lannon.

Bill was an avid breeder of both Boxers and Boston Terriers. He served as President, Vice President and board member of the Rhode Island Boxer Club and was known for his personality and knowledge within the dog community.  He had a passion for history, cars and many other topics in which he gathered knowledge from books, documentaries and YouTube. He always had an interesting way of finding an opportunity to share his acquired knowledge with friends and family.

Bill will be remembered by all who knew him as a good-hearted man who cherished his time with his family, friends and his dogs. His big personality and dry sense of humor were always a source of fun and laughter. A great listener, who offered advice, an alternate point of view and a solution or two, he was always there to help family and friends when needed.

Bill had a long, fulfilling career in the metal fabrication industry. He retired from Consolidated Fabricators in Auburn, as the Manager of Quality Control, in 2010. During his retirement, he enjoyed dog shows, camping, tending to his home and gardens and traveling with his family. Bill was the rock of the Lannon family and he will be missed dearly.

Janice and family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at UMass for their care and compassion during the most difficult times.

As per his wishes, Bill will be cremated, and a celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the following charities: Bone Marrow & Cancer Foundation, BMCF@BoneMarrow.org, American Boxer Charitable Foundation: ABCfoundation.org, or to the Northeast Boston Terrier Rescue:  NEbostonrescue.com
