Whitinsville- Thomas R. O’Brien, 90, died peacefully at home on Sat. Nov. 27, 2021.
Tom was born Feb. 20, 1931 to Genevieve (McCann) and James O’Brien, of Worcester. He graduated from St. John’s High School and Worcester State University, where he also received a graduate degree. He was an Army veteran.
Tom taught in the Worcester Public Schools for 36 years, retiring from the position of Mathematics Department Head at North High School. He enjoyed his membership in the Worcester Men of Song for over 65 years, where he sang in quartets, including The Razor Sharps and The Mello-Deans. He and his family enjoyed a vacation home at Priscilla Beach, Plymouth. His retirement included many travel destinations in various countries. He traveled with family and friends and developed friendships with lads in his favorite destinations, Ireland, England and Mexico. He also enjoyed Christmas vacations in the Bahamas with family. Tom held memberships in professional and social organizations and served on the Northbridge Finance Committee for many years.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Ann Mulligan O’Brien, their daughter Erin Anderson and husband Mark, their son Timothy O’Brien and wife Andrea. He leaves 3 granddaughters, Katie, Julia, and Emily O’Brien as well as his brother James O’Brien of Florida. His sister Mary predeceased him. In addition, he leaves 4 nieces and 2 nephews in his O’Brien family. He also leaves the many members of his Mulligan family. He will be missed.
