Shirley M. Heney

Northbridge- Shirley M. Heney, 87, of Elston Ave.passed away on Sat. Nov. 23, 2024 at UMass University Campus after a period of declining health.

She is survived by 2 sisters; Ida M. Haley and Elva M. Heney both of Northbridge; a sister-in-law Dorothy A. Heney; nephews, nieces, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her brother Henry J. "Sonny" Heney Jr. and brother-in-law William E. Haley. Born in Northbridge on March 27,1937 she was daughter of the late Henry J. Sr. and Blanche (Trottier) Heney and lived in town all her life.

Shirley found great fulfillment in her career as a Nurse Practitioner, retiring from Employee Health at Umass Memorial Medical Center at the age of 63. She was educated in St. Peter's School, Northbridge High School, Class of 1955 and Hahnemann School of Nursing. A lifelong member of St. Peter's Parish in Rockdale, she enjoyed the annual Bazaar and loved attending the monthly dinners with her friends. She was an avid New England sports fan, watching the Celtics, Patriots, Bruins, and Red Sox, often toggling the TV between games so as not to miss anything! There was nothing she loved more than having family and friends visit, whether in person or on the phone! Family, friend or stranger, you could not be in Shirley's presence without feeling her love.

Her Memorial Funeral Mass will be held Sat. Dec. 7 at 9am in St. Peter's Church, 39 Church Ave.Northbridge. A brunch will be served from 10-11:30at St. Peter's Parish Hall, followed by burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
