Roland E. Zuidema Sr., 86, of Brooklyn, CT, passed away at his home on February 21, 2026 after a period of declining health. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Elizabeth (Baker) Zuidema in 2012.
He is survived by 8 children Beth Hoekstra, Roland Zuidema Jr. of North Brookfield, Christine Celmer of Brimfield, John Zuidema of North Brookfield, Brian Zuidema and his wife Michelle of Brookfield, Cindy Andrews and her husband Scott of Leominster, Jennifer Zuidema of North Brookfield, and Keith Zuidema and his wife Maria of Brooklyn, CT. He had 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his daughter Tina Marie Zuidema, and siblings, Ethel Thatcher, William, James, Ernest, and Harold Zuidema.
Born in Sutton on August 24, 1939 he was the son of Ane and Fannie (Hammond) Zuidema and grew up in the Manchaug section of Sutton and was educated from the Sutton Public School system. Mr. Zuidema worked for Norton Company in Worcester for 30 years, until his retirement.
Roland enjoyed taking trips to the casino where he played the slot machines, and was a frequent purchaser of scratch tickets. He was a volunteer leader in Boy Scouts for many years. Above all, his greatest gift was his family, and he loved spending time with them.
Roland always said… "You'll miss me when I'm gone!" he did not know how right he was.
In accordance with his wishes, Roland will be cremated. His burial, along with his wife and daughter Tina will be privately held in St. Mary’s cemetery in the Spring.
