Robert J. Dooner, Sr. formerly of Norristown, PA and Dataw Island, SC passed away on December 28, 2024.
Robert was preceded by his loving wife of 53 years, Gladys Marie Dooner (Ferry) on June 3, 2010. He is survived by his four children: Linda Jo Johnson, and her husband Mark H., of Douglas, MA; Robert J. Dooner, Jr., and his wife Debbie, of East Norriton, PA; Carol A. Kibbe, and her husband Kevin, and Mark S. Dooner, and his wife Gerri, all of Douglas, MA. He was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren: Leah (Johnson) El-Sergani, and her husband Maged, of Dataw Island, SC; Colin Johnson, his wife Kelly and Baby Johnson (on the way) of Bozeman, MT; Kelsey and Timothy Dooner of East Norriton, PA; Jessica Kibbe, and her fiancé Jon Natale, of Walpole, MA; Kayla Kibbe of Astoria, NY; Jack and Justin Dooner of Douglas, MA.
Robert was the son of the late James J. Dooner and Kathryn (Clark) Dooner of Norristown. He was the youngest of ten children and pre-deceased by his siblings John, James, Richard, Kathryn, Dolores, Marie, and Dorothy. He is survived by two sisters Nancy Adams and Theresa Seiple.
Robert was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during the Korean War. After his discharge, he found a job as a lineman for the Philadelphia Electric Company where he often worked the “Trouble” shift; working in bad and dangerous weather conditions repairing electrical lines. He cherished his family and worked hard to provide for them.
Robert was always kind and happy; he always had time for a smile, hug, and a kind word. He always saw the good in people and found a way to put a positive spin on any situation. He loved to watch golf on tv and the Philadelphia Eagles play on Sundays. He was also a gifted tennis player.
Robert and Gladys retired to their beloved Dataw Island, in South Carolina, in 2000. There they spent ten years together in beautiful peace, enjoying life, playing tennis or croquet, and hosting new (and old) friends in their home on B.B. Sams Drive.
Roberts services will be announced at a later date.
