Douglas- Robert Francis Carter, 92, of Caswell Ct., passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 after a period of declining health.
He is survived by his cousins Alyce (Manyak) Conway of Douglas, Kevin Conway and his wife Karen of Douglas, Jennifer Duffy and her husband Gerald of Worcester, Sean Conway of Boston; several good friends including Joey Quintal, and Elaine Kulesza, and many other good friends at the Picket Fence Restaurant & The Goodness Store. He was predeceased by his sisters Anna May Carter, and Catherine Carter.
Born in Sutton on February 6, 1931 he was the son of Patrick M. and Bridget (Meany) Carter and grew up in the Manchaug section of Sutton. He was a graduate of Sutton High School, and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War era, where he was discharged a Staff Sargeant. He lived many years in the Philadelphia, PA area where he worked as an Electronics Engineer. After his retirement in 1993, he moved back to Douglas where he has resided since.
He enjoyed golfing and was a lifelong, original member of Blissful Meadows Golf Course, where he played on leagues with friends. A social man, he was a great story teller and loved hanging out with his buddies at the Goodness Store and the Picket Fence.
His funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 11AM in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St., Douglas. Burial will follow in St. Denis Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
