Douglas-Ralph E. “Ned” Dudley III, 63, of 2 Main St. died Sat. May 12 at home after a brief illness.
He is survived by a brother Bruce W. and his wife Roberta Dudley of Rome, NY; a sister Elfreda Kallock and her friend Ralph Medbery of Douglas; cousin Eleanor Bath of Douglas; nephews and nieces Kevin Kibbe, Scott Kibbe, Randy Kibbe, Laurie Christianson, Tanya Hershberger, and Janel Miles; and several friends. He was predeceased by a sister Nancy L. Kibbe and brother-in-law Alvin “Skip” Kibbe. Born in Douglas on Sept. 24, 1948 he was the son of Ralph E. “Putt” Jr. and Lois E. (Wentzel) Dudley and lived here many years.
Ned worked for the Strathmore Paper Co. in Turners Falls for many years before returning to Douglas where he worked as chief operator for the Douglas Water and Sewer Dept. for 16 years. He retired due to illness in March. He was a graduate of Douglas High School and earned a degree in chemistry from N. Adams State College. Ned then did graduate work at the University of Miami at Ohio earning a degree in Wood Chemistry. He was a longtime member of the Douglas Conservation Commission and enjoyed fishing, traveling, and reading. He also loved flowers and working in the garden.
Ned’s funeral and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to the Simon Fairfield Public Library, PO Box 607, Douglas, MA 01516. Jackman Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
