Lunenburg- Owen C. Harper, 91, previously of Rolling Acres Rd., passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Blaire House of Milford after a period of declining health. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Jennie M. (Kozek) Harper in 2016.
He is survived by his son Theodore "Ted" Harper of Leominster; a daughter, Karen Chansky and her husband Paul of Arundel, ME; 2 siblings, Bradford Harper and his wife Lucille of Whitinsville, and Elaine Miller also of Whitinsville, as well as many nieces, and nephews, and 2 sister in-laws, Nancy (Morin) Harper, and Nancy (Johnson) Harper. He also leaves his “4-legged friend” his cat, Blackie. He was predeceased by 3 siblings, Carl Harper, Peter Harper, and Beverly Weinmann.
Born in Milford on August 30, 1930 Owen grew up in Uxbridge. He was a Northbridge High School graduate and furthered his education earning an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Worcester Junior College. A veteran of the Korean War era, Owen served as a Sergeant in the U.S Air Force from 1950-1954 and was stationed in England. He worked many years as a Salesman for various chemical companies servicing the paper industry in Maine. After his retirement in 2000, he continued to work part-time providing transportation services to the elderly and physically challenged, which he did well into his 80’s. He was a resident of Lunenburg for 58 years.
Owen was a big fan of Jazz music, and even played the trumpet in his younger years. He also enjoyed horseracing and spent nearly every August in Saratoga attending the Travers Stakes and various races, and he was an avid golfer. While he was in the service Owen was a middle weight boxer, and continued to be a fan of boxing throughout his life.
His funeral service will be held on Monday, March 28th at 11 a.m. in Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St., Whitinsville. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's cemetery.
