Uxbridge- Nunzio “Philip” Giove, 67, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Milford Hospital after a period of declining health.
He is survived by his 2 sisters Kitty Bowman and her husband John of Brighton, Susan Flis of Douglas; nieces and nephews Stephanie Flannery, John Bowman, Paul Buccacio, Jennifer Fisher-Bowman, and Christopher Flis; 12 great-nieces and nephews; 2 great-great nephews, many cousins and lots of friends. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Steven Flis in 2014.
Born in Boston on May 12, 1957, Phil was son of the late Philip V. and Viola (Martin) Giove and grew up in the Allston/ Brighton area. He was a graduate of Saint Columbkill High School in Brighton, Class of ‘75 where he was an excellent athlete and played football and basketball. He has been an Uxbridge resident over 20 years. Most recently Mr. Giove worked as a special needs bus monitor for the Vanpool Corp., a job he enjoyed. Previously he worked for Lynch’s Riverview Wine and Spirits, Cummings Woman’s clothing store in Cambridge, and in the office supply industry.
Phil coached little league in Allston and Brighton, and women’s softball in Upton for many years. He loved and had a passion for kids. He was fond of all his nieces and nephews and was instrumental in their growing up, and loved them as his own. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed his New England Teams. He was an original member of Living Hope Ministry in Whitinsville the past 20 years. He was very active there and those friends were considered his extended family. He will be remembered as active fun-loving guy who treasured his family above all.
Phil’s calling hours will be held from Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd., Uxbridge on Thursday, May 30th from 4-8 PM. His funeral will be held in Cornerstone Church, 6 Hartford Ave., East, Uxbridge on Friday, May 31st at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Uxbridge.
