Normand Benoit Obituary

Whitinsville- Normand Charles "Ben" Benoit, 89, of Sherry St., passed away on Weds., May 8, 2024 peacefully at home after a period of declining health. His wife Arlene M. (Brousseau) Benoit passed away on October 22, 2022 after 67 years of marriage.

He is survived by 3 children, Stephane N. Benoit  and his wife Candy of Fayetteville, OH, Donald J. Benoit of Milford, OH, and Debra A. Benoit-Quinama of Whitinsville; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Born in Northbridge on April 30, 1935 he was the son of Lucien O. Benoit and Irene A. (Chenevert) and has been a lifelong resident of Northbridge.  Ben was educated from St. John’s prep. school in Danvers class of 1953. He furthered his education studying pre-med at Providence College, while working during school vacations as an on call pathologist at the old St. Vincent’s Medical Center.  In 1966, Normand earned his Master’s Degree in education from Worcester State College.

Ben worked as an 8th grade physical science teacher at the Whitin School in Uxbridge for 36 years, until his retirement in 1995. In addition, he ran the Mass board of officials as well as officiated field hockey, baseball, basketball, and hockey for many years.

After his retirement, Normand became an off-ice official supervisor for the former Worcester Ice Cats Hockey team for 17 years, and proudly worked along-side his son Stephane who was the equipment manager at that time.  An avid sports fan, he especially loved all his New England teams, and even recently he went to see the Worcester Railers play.

Ben enjoyed gardening, spending time with his family and friends, and spending summers in Narragansett, RI camping, and boating. Mr. Benoit will be remembered as a sweet and social man with a quick wit.  He treasured his family and will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched.

His Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 29th at 10AM in St. Peter’s Church, 39 Church Ave., Northbridge. Cremation burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
