Norman Baker Obituary

Douglas- Norman J. Baker, 95, passed away on Wed. Jan. 6, 2021 after a period of declining health. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Norma M. (Duhamel) Baker.
Norman is survived by his son Keith J. Baker of North Myrtle Beach, SC; and several nieces and nephews. He was also recently predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Linda J. Baker, who passed away in March.
Born in Northbridge on Oct. 12,1925 he was the son of John F. and Florence E. (White) Baker and grew up in Northbridge. He attended Northbridge public schools before deciding to serve in the U.S. Navy during the WWII era. Later, in April of 1999 he was awarded a belated diploma in a High School assembly with 3 other WWII veterans. Proudly serving, Norman operated the LST Landing Craft during the invasion of Iwo Jima. Norman and his wife made national news in 2007 when they finally went to the prom together 62 years late, due to missing it after Norman was called to serve in WWII.
Norman worked as a maintenance supervisor at St. Vincent’s Hospital for many years up until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Uxbridge VFW Post 1385, the Sutton Senior Center and a core member of the Light of Prayers Group in Worcester. A very social man, Norman loved people and could always find a friend in any room he entered. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
