Millville- Nelson I. Bartlett, 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 4, 2022 with family by his side at Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge. 

        Nelson joins in heaven the love of his life, Theresa , whom he missed dearly when she left his side on January 23, 2003 after 55 years, 8 months, and 6 days of marriage. They will now be together "Always".

        Nelson was born on July 30, 1927 in Uxbridge, the son of the late Joseph I. Bartlett and Bellonia “Bella” (Champagne) Bartlett. He married the late Theresa J. (Britt) on May 17,1947 in St Augustine's Church, Millville, MA. Together they resided in Blackstone and Millville where they raised their family. Nelson leaves behind two daughters, Amy M. Roberge and her husband Richard, and Sharon Capistran and her husband Richard both of Uxbridge. His grandchildren Nathan, Jonathan, and Sarah Roberge, Jessica Capistran-Hynes, Joshua Capistran, and Alyssa Vento and their spouses. Nelson especially enjoyed the company of the younger members of his family including his 12 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren who will miss him dearly. He was also the brother of Jeannette Laflash of Shrewsbury, the late Gloria Mainville of Hopedale and the late Joseph N. Bartlett Sr. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

        Nelson was raised in Whitinsville and attended Northbridge Schools. He worked as a wood pattern maker at Whitin Machine Works for 26 years followed by 15 years as a model maker at Tupperware in North Smithfield, RI. In May of 1945 at the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy during the WWII era where he proudly served aboard the USS Tarawa CV40 and was honorably discharged. In his later years, he enjoyed attending the annual reunions of fellow shipmates all over the country where he made many lasting friendships. The final reunion was in 2016. He was a member of the Millville American Legion Post 411. Nelson was very patriotic and proudly displayed the American flag wherever he could. He enjoyed gifting flags and flag poles to friends and family and especially to the Millville police and fire departments. Nelson proudly rode in the Millville Memorial Day parade and participated in the laying of the wreath in the Blackstone River in honor of fallen Navy Veterans.

        Nelson was a charter member of the Millville Planning Board for 25 years, serving as chairman for 7 years. He was instrumental in numbering all of the businesses and houses in town. He was also a member of the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission for 14 years serving as Vice chairman. 

        Nelson and Theresa enjoyed exploring the coast of Maine and spent time at Pemaquid Point.

His funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 9th at 11 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 77 Mendon St., Uxbridge. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Calling hours in Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd., Uxbridge will be held on Monday August 8, 2022 from 4-7 PM, and prior to Mass on Tuesday from 9:30 – 10:30AM.
