Miriam Murphy Cullen Martinuzzi Obituary

Uxbridge- Miriam (Shea) Murphy Cullen Martinuzzi, 92. We regretfully announce the passing of Miriam on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at AdviniaCare of Venice, FL. She is survived by her adoring husband, Ronald Martinuzzi.

She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Cullen, Sr. and the late George E. Murphy. She is survived by many step-children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews in the Cullen, Murphy, Martinuzzi and Shea families. Other fondly remembered predeceased family members include her step daughters, Maureen Hudson and Sharon Murphy; sister Lorraine and brother-in-law John.

Miriam was born in Boston, MA on April 21, 1932 and was the daughter of Edward and Catherine Shea. She grew up in Revere, graduating from Revere High School and furthered her education, receiving her B.S. Degree at Marymount College in NY, and Master of Science Degree at St. Mary's, MN. At 19 years of age, Miriam joined the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and taught 14 years in Antigua, and Dominica, in the West Indies where she prepared high school and first year college students for their overseas Cambridge exams in math and science.

Upon returning to the USA, she lived in N. Smithfield, R.I. and Bellingham, MA, before her settling in Uxbridge, MA. She was employed at the Blackstone-Millville Regional High School in Blackstone, MA, where she worked for 25 years as the Science Department Chairperson and Science Teacher of Grades 7 through 12.

Upon her retirement, she travelled extensively in the U.S., Canada, Jerusalem, Italy, and Ireland. She was also an active member of St. Mary's Parish in  Uxbridge, volunteering for many years as a lector and an extraordinary Eucharistic Minister. After Thomas J. Cullen, Sr. passed, Miriam moved to Venice, Florida where she met and married Ronald Martinuzzi.

Heavenly Father, I came to You in the mighty name of Jesus, and ask your blessings on family.  Please guide throughout their lifetime and show them the way to your many blessings. May His face shine upon them, and give them peace, love and joy.  May they say "in God we Trust," and may "His favor be upon them for a thousand generations,"  their children and their children to come..

Her Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 6th at 11 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 77 Mendon St., Uxbridge. Cremation burial will take place privately in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury, at a later date. There are no calling hours.
