Douglas- Michael E. Cahill, 87, of Main St., a lifelong Douglas resident, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025 after a period of declining health. He was predeceased by his first wife Theresa M. (Richard) Cahill, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage, in 2002.
He is survived by his second wife of 17 years, Brenda (Wise) Cahill, his son, Michael L. Cahill and his wife Kathleen of Springfield; his grandson Thomas M. Cahill of Houston, TX; his sister Patricia J. Scribner of Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews, and many great friends. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Patrick, Lawrence, and Henry Cahill, and 2 sisters, Marcia Giglio and Colleen Labelle.
Born in Douglas on November 23, 1937 he was the son of Lawrence and Ethel (Aldrich) Cahill. He was educated from Douglas primary schools and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade, where he studied to be a machinist. In addition, he served honorably in the United States Navy during the 1950’s. He spent over 40 years working as a machinist for Parker Manufacturing in Worcester until the company’s closure.
Mr. Cahill was a commendable member of the community, dedicating over 40 years as a volunteer firefighter. Mike was a jack-of-all-trades, master of them all, providing assistance to many over the years in the areas of carpentry, roofing, siding, electrical, plumbing, welding, and mechanical repairs. In his leisure time, he enjoyed engaging in projects within his cellar machine shop, and tending to his vegetable gardens. He was a great man and cherished his relationships with his family and friends. A man of great faith, Mike was a lifelong parishioner member of St. Denis Church, where he left his mark -a stack of pennies left on the cross of the bell tower of the church in his childhood years.
His funeral will be held on Friday, March 7th at 10 AM in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St., burial will follow in St. Denis Cemetery. Calling hours for Mike will be held on Thursday, March 6th from 4-7 PM in Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas.
