Northbridge- Matthew J. Zywien, 85, passed away Wed. June 21, 2017 in the comfort of his home. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Dupont) Zywien. He is also survived by 4 children; Patricia M. Lightbown of Whitinsville, Katherine M. Follett and her husband Jeffrey of Holden, Paul M. Zywien of Whtinsville, and John J. Zywien and his wife Linda of Whitinsville, 5 grandchildren; Amy Arnaudo, Melissa Alexander, Stephanie Follett, Nora Zywien, and Matthew Zywien, 3 great-grand children; Aiden, Isabella, and Ava, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Michael and Emil Zywien.
Born in Whitinsville on Oct. 28, 1931 he was the son of Benjamin and Anna (Mazur) Zywien both from Poland. He lived in Whitinsville his whole life, graduating from Northbridge High School Class of 1949, and attending the New England School of Accounting. He worked as an Auditor for the Dept. of Education for the state of MA for 20 years. Previously working at Frabotta Oil, Granger Contracting, and the former Whitin Machine Works. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Mumford Council #365 for many years and was a longtime and founding member of the Whitinsville Golf Club. A man with a great sense of humor, Matt enjoyed golfing, doing yard work, the occasional barbeque, and overall he loved & enjoyed time spent with his family. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren, they were his world. He will be sorely missed.
His funeral will be held from Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St. Whitinsville on Fri. June 23, 2017 with a Mass at noon in St. Patrick’s Church, 1 Cross St. Whitinsville. Calling Hours at the funeral home will be Fri. June 23 from 8:30-11:30am. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Matthew’s memory may be made to the Northbridge Ambulance Fund, Po Box 13 Whitinsville, MA 01588.
