Uxbridge- Mary C. (Whelan) Marcou, 92 of Hecla St., formerly of Stark, NH passed away on Monday October 7, 2024 after a period of declining health. Her husband Thomas J. Marcou died February 1, 1984.
She is survived by a daughter Carol A. Smith and her companion Mark Johnson of Uxbridge; 3 sons Thomas M. and his wife Dawn Marcou of Kissimmee, FL, Gerard J. Marcou of Upton, and Kenneth S. Marcou and his companion Emma Murray of Warwick, RI; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Fred Whelan, Jack Whelan, Arthur Whelan, Kenneth Whelan, and Vincent Whelan and was also predeceased by a daughter-in-law Darlene Marcou and a son-in-law Earl Smith.
Born in Hyde Park, MA on January 28, 1932, she was the daughter of John J. and Myrna (Peterson) Whelan and lived in Uxbridge the past eight years. Previously she lived in Stark, NH 32 years.
Mrs. Marcou was primarily a homemaker, caring for her husband and children over the years. She was educated in Catholic elementary school and graduated from Hyde Park High School. A great seamstress, she loved gardening, canning, and pickling, and even chopped and stacked her own wood. Elegant and classy, Mary always dressed nice. She loved to eat and was a very good piano player. In New Hampshire she was an active member of St. Marguerite d’Youville Parish. There she did charity work, fundraising, and helped out where she could. She was also a member of St. Mary Parish in Uxbridge.
Her Funeral Mass will be held Friday October 11, at 10 am in St. Mary’s Church, 77 Mendon St Uxbridge. Burial will follow in Knollwood Cemetery in Canton. There are no public calling hours. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to St. Marguerite d’Youville Parish, 11 State St. Groveton, NH 03582.
