Northbridge- Marlene I. (Becker) Bernard, 84, formerly of Highland St., passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Countryside Healthcare in Milford after a period of declining health. Her husband of 53 years, Louis JL “Lou” Bernard Sr., died August 24, 2019.
She is survived by her 3 children, Louis Bernard Jr. and his wife Cara of Whitinsville, Catherine Capozzo and her husband Steven of Oxford, and Dennis Bernard of FL; 7 grandchildren, Joshua Young, Jennifer Young, Heather Bernard, Shannon Bernard, Nathan Mozinski, Lauren Bernard, and Meaghan Roos and her husband Josh; 2 great-grandchildren, Dominic and Laynie, and 2 on the way, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas N. Bernard in 2022 and her grandson Scott D. Pineo in 2023. She was sister of the late John “Jack” Becker.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, on Oct 7, 1941 Marlene was the daughter of Joseph and Isabelle (Crane) Becker and lived in Northbridge 54 years. She attended high school in Philadelphia, and furthered her education attending College for Art. Marlene worked as a secretary for High Purity Water in Grafton for 25 years. Previously, she ran a daycare out of her home for 25 years. She loved children, and there were always little kids around her. Her hobbies included crafts, ceramic painting, and bowling, where she belonged to several leagues in Shrewsbury and Auburn. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church. Marlene enjoyed her many dogs over the years.
In accordance with her wishes, Marlene will be cremated. Her memorial funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 21, 2026 in St. Patrick’s Church, 1 Cross St., Whitinsville. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Atria Draper Place, c/o Activities Fund, 25 Hopedale St., Hopedale MA 01747.
