Douglas- Malcolm J. “Joe” MacDonald, 75, of Colonial Rd. passed away on Friday July 14, 2023 at home with his family by his side.

     He is survived by his three children, Michael and his wife Kathy MacDonald of Fitchburg, Kelly Balanca and her husband Jeff of Douglas, and Amy MacDonald of Douglas; 6 grandchildren, Mikayla Schmider and her husband Curtis, Marissa MacDonald, Zach McIntyre, Gabriella Balanca, and Nate VanderZicht; and many brothers and sisters as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson Matthew MacDonald.

     Born in Medford, MA on September 12, 1947, Joe was the son of John “Jack” and Catherine (Donaghue) MacDonald. He was raised in the Medford and Somerville areas and graduated from Somerville High School. He was a longtime resident of Milford and lived in Douglas for the last 4 years.

    Joe worked tending to and running boilers, as a Second Class Fireman for Dennison Manufacturing in Framingham for over 20 years.  He was proud to be a US Navy Veteran serving on the amphibious assault ship, the USS Inchon. He was part of the original crew of this ship and traveled the world during his Navy years from 1967 to 1971. 

     Joe enjoyed listening to music, watching our beloved hometown sports teams, finding new restaurants to dine at and spending time with his family.
