Lisa Smith Obituary

Douglas – Lisa G. (Labonte) Smith, 63, of Douglas, MA passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 22, 2025. She was the devoted wife of William R. Smith, with whom she shared 45 wonderful years of marriage—an inspiration to all who knew them.

Born in Whitinsville on February 24, 1961, Lisa was the beloved daughter of May (Garabadien) Labonte and the late Leonard Labonte. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her son Charles Smith and wife Larissa of Sahuarita, AZ; her daughter Amanda M. Smith-Kelly and husband Ryan of Cumberland, RI; grandchildren Violet and Vance Smith, and Quinn Kelly; her twin sister, Laura Williams of Windham, NH; her sister, Lynel Allende and husband Rafael of Indialantic, FL; her brother Charles Labonte and wife Lori of Douglas, MA; and many nieces and nephews.

Academically driven, Lisa earned her Associate of Science from Worcester Industrial Technical Institute, then completed a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering at Central New England College in Worcester. In 1998, she received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston. Before transitioning to eye care, she worked as a mechanical engineer at Reed Rolled Thread Die Company in Holden, where she designed fasteners for the space shuttle.

Lisa owned and operated the Blackstone Valley Optical Shop; served as an optometrist at Sears in Northborough and Swansea; worked at the Southbridge Spectacle Shop and Swansea Vision; and practiced at B. Frank in Uxbridge. Her dedication to her profession and patients led to her recognition as “Doctor of the Year” in Swansea.

She will be remembered for her strong will, perseverance, and boundless generosity. An avid horse lover, Lisa passed on that passion to her daughter and granddaughter. She gave more than she took, and mastered everything she set her mind to—from her profession to her cooking. Above all, she cherished her family, sharing laughter around the dinner table and living life with a heart of gold.

A private funeral will be held this week for family and close relatives. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692. To leave a condolence message for her family, please visit: Jackmanfuneralhomes.com
