Douglas – Lawrence "Larry" Augusta Jr., 81, of Prentice Court, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, after a brief illness.

Larry is survived by his devoted caregivers and loving family, Michelle Mandeville and her husband, Lou, with whom he made his home for the past 29 years. Through their unwavering love, acceptance, and care, Larry found the family he so deeply deserved and enjoyed a life filled with happiness, security, and countless cherished memories. He is also survived by his siblings, Curtis Burnett and Falan Rowean; his three beloved nieces, Rylee, Lexi, and Taylor Rowean; and his cherished feline companion, Coco.

Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on August 15, 1944, Larry was the son of the late Lawrence Sr. and Frances (Lagrasa) Augusta. Born with developmental disabilities and unable to communicate verbally, Larry faced many challenges early in life and spent his childhood at the Monson Developmental Center in Palmer. Although his beginnings were difficult, his life became a testament to the power of unconditional love and belonging. Once welcomed into Michelle and Lou's home, Larry flourished, surrounding those who knew him with his infectious happiness and gentle spirit. Though he never spoke with words, those who loved him always understood exactly what he wanted and what brought him joy.

A longtime participant in Open Sky Community Services, formerly Alternatives, Larry looked forward to attending his adult day programs at the Adult Learning Center in Whitinsville and Salmon at Whitney Place. He especially enjoyed traveling with Alternatives, creating wonderful memories on trips to Dutch Country, Pennsylvania, and the Berkshires.

Larry found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved bowling, therapeutic horseback riding, spending "bro time" with Curtis, and cheering on his nieces at their sporting events and activities. An avid music lover, he enjoyed all genres, especially country music. He also loved dining out, taking trips to Foxwoods, and spending time with those he loved.

Larry's warm smile, joyful spirit, and ability to bring happiness to everyone around him touched countless lives. He will be remembered with great love and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 6, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Open Sky Community Services, Inc., 4 Mann St., Worcester, MA 01602.
