Douglas- L. Paul Somers, 72, of SW Main St. passed away peacefully on Thurs. July 14, 2022 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
He is survived by 2 daughters Wendy Lozeau of Burrillville and Janel Edwards in PA; 3 brothers Ronald Somers of Webster, Robert Somers and Phillip Somers both of Douglas; a sister Carolyn Boutilier in N. Carolina and many good Friends. He was the brother of the late Diane “Bunny” Groh. Born in Webster, MA on July 10, 1950 he was the son of Warren and Barbara (Poynter) Somers and lived in Douglas all his life.
Paul worked as a truck driver for Nydam Oil Co. in Linwood for 26 years. Previously he owned and operated Somers’ Truck and Gravel in Douglas for 10 years. After retirement he worked part time at the Edgewood Golf Course and drove a school bus for Vendetti Corp. He loved driving his students to and from school. A 1968 graduate of Douglas High School, he served in the US Army National Guard 6 years and briefly served stateside in the Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a 17 year Douglas Fire Dept. Volunteer, belonged to the Slovak Catholic Sokol, The Beagle Club, and was a Board Member of the TSKK Club in Webster. Funny, well dressed, and good natured, Paul enjoyed having coffee at the Goodness with “the boys”, playing golf, and hanging with his dog Shadow.
His funeral will be held Tues. July 19 with a Mass at 10 am in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St.Burial will follow in Douglas Center Cemetery. Calling hours at Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St.are Mon. July 18 from 5 to 7 pm. Memorial donations may be made to Dog Orphans Inc. 90 Webster St. Douglas, MA 01516.
