Uxbridge- Kenneth M. Steele, 86, passed away peacefully on Tues., October 1, 2024 at his daughter’s home in Douglas after a period of declining health. He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Sandra J. (Tancrell) Steele in 1998.
He is survived by 4 children, Lauren J. Steele of Uxbridge, Sheree L. Storey and her husband Paul of Johnston, RI, Jean E. Conley and her husband Duane of Douglas, and Erin L. Henry and her husband Donald of Northbridge; 11 grandchildren, Megan, Kristen, Jason, Amanda, Paul, Rachel, Chelsea, Ian, Abigail, Daniel, Adrien; great-grandchildren, Destiny, Lilian, Logan, Violet, Maddox, Raelyn; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends. He was predeceased by 7 siblings Richard, Robert, William, Thomas, John, Barbara, Dorothy.
Born in Sutton, MA on November 28, 1937 he was the son of John and Agnes (Strom) Steele and grew up in and lived in Uxbridge most of his life. He was educated in the Uxbridge public school system, where he was a catcher for their baseball team. Mr. Steele worked 30 + years as a Teamsters Local 170 truck driver for St. Johnsbury Corp. Subsequently, he worked for the Uxbridge Highway Department for the Compost Facility for over 20 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1562, and was a former member of Good Shepherd Church. He was an avid New England sports fan who liked vintage cars, and was a member of the “Jumbo Donuts Social Group”, where he kept up on local news.
His funeral home service will be held on Monday, October 7th at 7 PM in Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd., Uxbridge. Calling hours will be held before the service from 5-7PM.
