Karin was born in Holden, MA, on February 4, 1955 to Chesley H. Johnson and Ethel Vivian (Johnson) Johnson, and grew up in Millbury with her siblings Rick Rumford, Joan Rumford, Gail Rumford, Chet Johnson Jr., and Robin (Johnson) Black. Karin was educated from the Millbury Public School systems and was a graduate of Millbury High School. She then furthered her education studying Interior Design at Becker College, where she obtained an Associate’s degree. She owned several interior design businesses and she was an art instructor for canvas painting. She also worked for Valencourt Folk Art as a lead artist, Montross and Tempflex as a lead production coordinator, before her retirement in 2019.
Karin was an artist, and avid gardener who always had a bountiful vegetable garden to share with her family, and an array of flowers that graced her flower beds. Karin lit up every room she ever walked into, and she loved to entertain. She was a wonderful and loving mother and wife who gave her all to her family and friends. She had a kind and generous soul, always putting others' needs before her own. Her children were her pride and joy and she felt very blessed to be able to live on the same property and right next door to her children and grandchildren.
Her family would like to extend a special thank you to her care team from UMass and also Salmon Hospice for their care and support shown to both Karin and her family during her illness.
Her family will be hosting a celebration of life ceremony, at a later date, to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
