Douglas- Judith C. (Marrier) Begley, 66, passed away on Mon. Nov 1, 2021 at UMass Hospital in Worcester after a courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Jeffrey A. Begley; 4 children, April Vassar and significant other Dave Visser of Douglas, Erik Martinsen and his wife Kate of Douglas, Michael Martinsen and his wife Robyn of Douglas, and Ryan Begley and his wife Laura of Thompson, Ct; 7 grandchildren, with one on the way, her mother, Joyce (Golenski) Guiou of Douglas; her brother, Robert Guiou and his wife Jan of Danielson, Ct; many nieces and nephews, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and great friends. Born in Bridgeport, CT on July 21, 1955, Judith lived her early childhood years in Webster before her family settled in Douglas. She was a resident of Douglas for the past 55 years.
A graduate of Douglas High School, she worked at a young age for her mother’s construction business, Percy Guiou Excavating. Always a hard worker, owning multiple businesses, starting with the Craft Buggy. Judith and her husband Jeffrey then opened Movie Maddness & Candy Corner, a video rental and specialty candy business they had for 16 years on Main St. Most recently Judith was working as store manager for Chico’s retail store at the Solomon Pond Mall. She worked there for many years before her retirement in 2015.
Judith was very involved in her children’s lives. She attended most of their activities and sports games. She was also a Cheerleading Coach with her daughter April for Douglas High School for 20 years, where she influenced countless young lives. Her homemade cooking and baking skills were second to none. She had a green thumb and grew beautiful flowers and vegetables, which she canned and pickled. Most of all however, Judy was a loving, full-time mother and wife, who always placed others ahead of herself. Family always came first.
Judith’s calling hours will be held from Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas on Wed. Nov. 10th from 4-7 PM. Her Celebration of Life in the funeral home will be held on Thurs.
