Joseph Susienka Sr. Obituary

Whitinsville- Joseph R. Susienka Sr. 97, passed away on Thurs. Aug. 25, 2022 after a brief illness.

            Joe is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Stacia H. (Mucha) Susienka; 4 children, Joseph R. Susienka Jr. and his wife Susan of Whitinsville, James R. Susienka and his wife Sharon of Whitinsville, Carol A. Mason and her husband Ken of Sturbridge, and Marlene Susienka of Mashpee; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Rudolph Sr. and Susan (Bielik) Susienka, and by his 6 siblings, Victor Susienka, Rudolph Susienka, William Susienka, Emily McLaughlin, MaryAnn Cerulle, and Susan Wrabel. 

Joe was born in Douglas, MA on April 29, 1925 and was educated in the Douglas public school system. He then went on to work as a heating technician for Sutton Fuel & Marane Oil for 30 years.  

A proud World War II veteran and member of the “Greatest Generation,” Joe loved telling stories about his “Navy life” and was deeply committed to family and community. Joe loved listening and dancing to polkas with Stacia, quahogging with his dog Barney, and sharing harvests from his garden. He and Stacia enjoyed traveling to Japan, Hong Kong, Bermuda, California and Hawaii. Above all, Joe was happiest when his home was filled with his loving family.

He lived in Whitinsville for the past 60 years and was a member and communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, as well as a lifetime member of the VFW. 

            Due to COVID concerns, Joe’s funeral Mass and burial will be private and held at the convenience of his family. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090.
