Douglas- Joseph F. Duda, 81, a resident of Grafton House in N. Grafton died Fri. Dec. 29, 2017 after an illness.
He is survived by his sister, Andrea Hicks and her husband, Neill of Tehachapi, CA; Aunt Helen Piascik and her son Peter of Florida; a great-nephew, Terak; son of his niece Marchesa Favara and her husband, Paul Grubb; and his friends and staff at Alternatives and Grafton House.
Born in Whitinsville, MA on Dec. 2, 1936 he was the son of Andrew J. and Henrietta (Borowicz) Duda and lived in Douglas, Uxbridge, and Northbridge. He had been a resident of Grafton House the past year.
Joe had been a member of Alternatives since 1986. He was part of the Alternatives Vocational Program for 15 years. He was proud to retire in 2001 and became part of Alternative’s Senior Enrichment Program. Joseph had a non-stop drive and spirit. He lived in the moment and never let challenges or adversity hold him back. Educated with a private tutor in East Douglas, he loved cars and downhill skiing. He will be remembered for his tenacity, his love of helping, and joy for life. He loved food and his weekly trips to Burger King. His sister Andrea is writing a book about Joe while focusing on those individuals who knew and cared for Joe. She would welcome adding their experiences and perspectives about Joe. Working title: KNOWING JOEY -- A very special journey.
His funeral service will be held FRIDAY JAN. 5, 2018 at 10 am in Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St. Douglas. Burial will follow in St. Denis Cemetery. A calling hour will be held at the funeral home on FRIDAY JAN. 5 from 9 to 10 am. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to Alternatives, 50 Douglas Rd. Whitinsville, MA 01588.
