Douglas- John T. Saviano, 81, of A St. passed away suddenly at home on Fri Nov 1, 2024.
He is survived by his 2 children Jamie L. Saviano and her fiancé Bob Martin of Millville and Eric J. Saviano and his wife Erin of Northbridge; 2 grandchildren Taylor Howes and Cali Saviano; 2 brothers James Saviano and his wife Cynthia of Douglas and Victor Saviano of Boston; a niece Debbie Saviano, a nephew Scott Saviano, their families and several cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Phillip Saviano and step mother Marguerite A. (Londergan) Saviano both in 2021. Born in Northbridge on July 29, 1943 he was the son of the late Pasquale “Pat” and Mary (Bombara) Saviano and lived in Douglas all his life.
Mr. Saviano worked 30 years as a senior designer for Metso Automation, previously the Jamesbury Corp. in Shrewsbury. He retired in 2003. He was also employed at Whitinsville Machine Works, and Crompton and Knowles Textile Co. over the years. A 1961 graduate of Douglas High School, he belonged to St. Denis Church, the Beagle Club, and the NRA. John was proud to serve in the US Army National Guard 22 years with the 118st Infantry Battalion in Worcester. He also belonged to the Yankee Division Veterans Association. An avid reader, he loved military history, Ford cars (especially Mustangs), and his former dog Maximus. He also followed NASCAR and took many trips with friends to the Watkins Glen Track.
His funeral will be held Tues Nov 12 at 10 am in St.Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St. Private burial will be in the VA National Cemetery in Bourne. Calling hours at Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St. are Veteran’s Day, Mon Nov 11 from 5 to 7 pm.
