Uxbridge- John W. “Jackie” Garrity, 84, of Cross St. passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026 after being stricken ill at home.
He is survived by his 3 brothers, William F. Garrity Jr. and his wife Lisa of Uxbridge, Gerald A. Garrity of Uxbridge with whom he lived, and Robert M. Garrity of Whitinsville; a niece, Candace Brothers; a great-niece Emma Brothers; several cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Richard D. “Dick” Garrity in 2022. Born in Woonsocket, RI, on September 16, 1941, he was son of the late William F. Sr. and Mary M. (Connors) Garrity and lived in Uxbridge all his life.
Jackie was a graduate of Uxbridge High School, Class of 1959. He continued his education at the New England School of Accounting, where he earned professional certifications. He proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1962 to 1968, based out of the Milford Armory.
Jackie worked third shift at Pratt & Whitney Co. in Hartford, CT for several years as a parts laborer, and later spent more than a decade as a printer with the former Taft Printing Company in Uxbridge. He also worked as a courier in Milford, delivering plane tickets until his retirement in 2001. He was hard-working and dependable.
Jackie was well known for his daily walks around town, often taking them twice a day for many years. He enjoyed watching classic Western films and was an avid sports fan, with a particular passion for baseball and the Boston Red Sox. He also closely followed the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team. In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading the Farmer’s Almanac and keeping up with the local newspaper. Jack was a lifelong member of St. Mary Church.
His funeral will be held on Monday, March 30th, at 11 am in St. Mary Parish, 77 Mendon St., Uxbridge. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held prior to Mass from 9- 10:30 am in Tancrell- Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd., Uxbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to St. Mary Parish, 77 Mendon St., Uxbridge, MA 01569.
