Whitinsville/Newton- John Riley “Jack” Driscoll, 90, passed away on Wed. July 9 at Belmont Manor Nursing and Rehab. Ctr. in Belmont after a period of declining health. His beloved wife of over 50 years Constance A. (Bentley) Driscoll predeceased him on March 17, 2013.
Jack is survived by a daughter; Monica Stuart and her husband Douglas of Belmont; a son Sean Riley Driscoll and his partner Greg Fredo of Belmont; 5 grandchildren, Caitlin Driscoll Beatty and her husband Sameer Shah of Pawtucket, Meaghan Maura Beatty of Brighton, Shannon Grace Beatty of Providence, Bride Anne Stanley and John Alden Stanley, both of Whitinsville, and Skyler Stuart of San Diego, 3 great grandchildren; Taria Bronte Shah, and Alila Mercy Shahboth of Pawtucket, and Jaxon Alden Stanley of Whitinsville, a brother; Edward M. Driscoll of Gastonia, NC; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 daughters; Maura Holway and Kerin Stanley, and a sister; Elizabeth D. “Bette” McMahon. Born in Whitinsville on May 9, 1924 Jack was the son of Thomas H. and Margaret (Riley) Driscoll and lived in Uxbridge several years before moving to Whitinsville where he lived for many years. A U.S. Army Air Corps WWII Veteran, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
Jack enjoyed a successful, twenty-five year career as an agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He was an Assessor for the Town of Northbridge for many years, and an enormously popular State Representative for twenty years. Jack was well-known for responding personally to the needs of constituents and representing his district with dedication. After retiring from the State House, he worked for several years at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Northbridge as a good will ambassador. He also enjoyed many beautiful trips within the United States, the British Isles, Europe, the Caribbean, and China. Jack spent most summer vacations in Harwichport on Cape Cod. He was an active and valued member of Saint Patrick’s Parish in Whitinsville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Patrick’s Church, 1 Cross Street, Whitinsville, on Sat. July 12 at 1 p.m. Internment at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Uxbridge will follow. No calling hours are scheduled.
