Douglas- Joan L. (Blouin) Steele, 91, of Ledgestone Road, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Blackstone Valley Nursing and Rehab. in Whitinsville, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Wallace Steele who died in 2009.
She is survived by her son Kevin J. and his wife Bonnie Steele of Sutton; her daughter, Laura and her husband Ellis “Peter” Burgess, Jr. of Douglas; 4 grandchildren, Brian Steele and his wife Amanda of Sutton, Gregory Steele and his wife Ashley of Newport, RI, Justine (Burgess) Doyon and her partner Jacob Crannell of Douglas, Patrick Burgess and his wife Tanya of Douglas; 10 great-grandchildren Landon, Aubrey, Charlie, Callahan, Julian, Dartagnan, Kaylin, Jacob, Kolton, and Kit whom she loved dearly and brought much joy to her life; 2 sisters, Gloria Bentley of Uxbridge, and Janet Malkasian of Whitinsville as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son Jeffrey Steele who passed in 1979, and her sister, Constance Campo.
She was born in Whitinsville, the daughter of the late Archie Blouin and Rose "Eva" (Malkasian) Blouin. She was a graduate of Northbridge High School. Joan was a longtime resident of Whitinsville until moving to Douglas in 1998 to their home on Manchaug Pond. Joan was employed for many years at the former Whitin Machine Works in Whitinsville and then at the Umass Memorial Medical Center on Lake Ave., in Worcester where she worked as a secretary/receptionist for the Pathology Department. She retired in 1997.
Joan was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Whitinsville. She enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, and most of all her family. Her family wishes to extend their thanks to the Staff working in Anderson Court at Blackstone Valley Nursing Home, as well as JHC Hospice for their outstanding care and support shown not only to Joan but also to her family.
Joan’s Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 25th at 11 AM in St. Patrick's Church, 1 Cross St., Whitinsville, MA. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held prior to Mass from 9- 10:30 AM in Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St., Whitinsville.
