Douglas- Joan R. (Woodall) Colton, 92, of Martin Rd. passed away Thurs. Dec. 22, 2022 after a long illness. Her husband of 61 years Harry F. Colton Jr. died Sept. 27, 2011.
She is survived by 2 sons Steven F. Colton and David T. Colton and his wife Sue, all of Douglas; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Robert J. Colton and a daughter Donna L. Carter. Born in Hollywood, FL on Dec. 11, 1930 Joan was the daughter of Alfred and Rose (Fregeau) Woodall. She was raised and lived in Douglas all her life.
Mrs. Colton was a graduate of Douglas Memorial High School. Primarily a stay-at-home mom, raising her children, Joan was employed in the Computer Dept. at the Worcester Visiting Nurse Association for 7 years. Previously she worked at Bernat Yarn Co. in Uxbridge. After retirement, she and Harry spent many winters in Myrtle Beach. An avid reader, she loved sewing, taking and organizing photographs, listening to music, shopping, traveling and attending concerts with close friends. Her family was most important to her however. She especially adored her grandchildren and was extremely proud of them.
Her Memorial Funeral Service will be held Fri. Jan. 6, 2023 at 12 noon in Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St. Cremation burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Fri. Jan 6 from 10 am to 12 noon. Memorial donations in Joan’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
