Jean Dixson Obituary

Douglas- Jean (Quintal) Dixson, 86, of Walnut St., formerly of Church St., passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Wed. Feb. 22, 2023 at her home after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Norval K. “Kurt” Dixson in 1998 after 34 years of marriage. 

        She is survived by 3 children, Scott N. Dixson and his wife Debbie of Wayland, Amy L. Symmes of New Port Richey, FL, and Tracy J. Hill and her husband Danny of Douglas with whom she lived; 8 grandchildren, Nicholas, Anthony, Trevor, Lauren, Carolyn, Cameron, Benjamin, and Madelyn; one great-grandson Parker; 2 sisters Dorothy Lessard of Hampton, NH, and Helen Dixson of Douglas, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Joseph H. “Sonny” Quintal, and Margaret Chipman.

        Born in Douglas on June 7, 1936, she was the daughter of Joseph C. and Mildred Elizabeth (Simmons) Quintal  and lived here all her life. A graduate of Douglas Memorial High School, she furthered her education at the Worcester School of Business Science. She worked many years for the Greater Milford VNA out of Mendon, where she was an Administrative Assistant to the Director, retiring in 2001. Previously she worked for the Douglas Police Dept. as a dispatcher and secretary.

        Jean was a member of the First Congregational Church of Sutton, and belonged to their Women’s Fellowship. A very active woman, she was a longtime member of the Whitin Community Center, and participated in their Silver Sneakers group. She loved to travel and go on cruises, tend to her many flower and vegetable gardens, and read books. She was an organized, selfless person, caring for those around her, usually putting herself last. An incredible mom and homemaker, she enjoyed cooking delicious meals for her family, and especially making her grand Thanksgiving dinner. She was also a dog lover who enjoyed her pugs over the years.

            Calling hours at Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas will be held on Thurs. March 2nd from 4-7 PM. Jean’s Celebration of life will be held at the First Congregational Church of Sutton, 307 Boston Rd., on Fri. March 3rd for an 11 o’clock Service. Private burial will be held in Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
