Janet E (Hiddenga) Rondeau Simmons

Portsmouth, RI- Janet E. (Hiddenga) Rondeau Simmons, 90, formerly of Uxbridge, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025 at the Grand Islander Center after a period of declining health. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 33 years, Harley K. Simmons in 2014.

         She is survived by 3 daughters, Helen Desilets of Raleigh, NC, Christine Hall and her husband Randy of Uxbridge, Sharyn Sheeran and her husband John of Portsmouth, RI; 6 Stepchildren, Kim, Tracy, John, Michael, Kyle, and Jill, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sister Betsy Spinella.

         Born in Northbridge on May 4, 1935, she was the daughter of Bouke and Elizabeth E. (Olson) Hiddenga and grew up in Northbridge. She was a graduate of Northbridge High School and furthered her education by attending Salter Secretarial School. Mrs. Simmons worked as the personal secretary to Mrs. Bernat of Bernat’s Yarn in Uxbridge for 25 years, previously working for Porter Shoe in Milford and the Draper Corp. in Hopedale.

         Janet was an avid reader, who enjoyed flower gardening, and spending time at the ocean. She was a devoted grandmother, who always stayed very active in all her grandchildren’s lives. She also had a great love of music and loved to sing. She was a former member of the Uxbridge Democratic Town Committee. A woman of great faith, she found solace and community in the Episcopalian faith.

         Her funeral service will be held on Friday, June 27th at 11 a.m. in Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd., Uxbridge.  Burial will be privately held following in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Uxbridge. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held prior to the service from 10-11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Janet’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St., Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
