Douglas- Hsiu C. “Hish” Wheeler, 87, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Milford Hospital after a period of declining health.
She is survived by her son, James P. Wheeler of Douglas; granddaughters, Jacqueline Rose Wheeler of Aiken, SC and Jessica Wheeler and her fiancé Adam Lariviere of Brooklyn, CT; her great-grandson Calum Lariviere; her niece Mei yun Chan, her husband Ngai Ning Chan, and their daughters Jessica and Olivia Chan of New Hyde Park, NY; brother-in-law, Ken Sanborn of Seattle, WA, as well as many other nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her daughter Connie C. Wheeler of Douglas in 2012.
Born in Taipei, Taiwan to Ching Lung and Lo Lung (Mei) Hsieh, Hsiu was raised in Taiwan and emigrated to the United States in 1966. Hish worked as a computer assembler for Waters Corporation for many years before her retirement in 2008. She was a member of the deaf seniors of America, Worcester deaf club, the Worcester Senior center and attended the center for living and working in Worcester.
Hish loved traveling the world especially with her granddaughters. She was a talented hobbyist and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. Every year she made beautiful Christmas presents for her family including table runners, ornaments, and crocheted flowers. Hish’s Taiwanese cooking set her apart from other home cooks and it brought everyone together as she poured her love into each dish. Above all, she loved her family and treasured memories made with them. She was a sweet and caring woman who will be sorely missed.
