at her son’s home on Wednesday April 22, 2026 after a brief illness. Her family was by her side. Helen’s husband of 52 years, Robert S. Dixson died November 22, 2009.
She is survived by two sons, Mark S. Dixson and his wife Gretchen of Moultonborough, NH, and Stephen R. Dixson and his wife GiGi of Douglas; her daughter, Julie E. Kessler and her husband John of Douglas; 7 grandchildren Gregory, Kevin, Jordan, Emily, Robert, Rachel, and Ryan; two great-grandchildren Paige and Maia; her sister Dorothy Lessard of Hampton, NH; and several nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Joseph H. “Sonny” Quintal, Jean Dixson, and Margaret Chipman. Born in Douglas on February 27, 1932, she was the daughter of Joseph C. and Mildred E. (Simmons) Quintal and lived here all her life.
Primarily a homemaker, caring for her husband and children, Mrs. Dixson worked as a waitress at the Goodness Store in Douglas in her youth. She was a graduate of Douglas Memorial High School, Class of 1950, where she played softball. A member of the Douglas Women’s Club, she made the best chicken pies for their fundraisers. She also was an election volunteer for the town of Douglas, helping to tally votes. Helen enjoyed taking bus trips, an occasional trip to the casino, fishing, working in her garden, and the Red Sox and Patriots. She also loved car rides with a Dunkin coffee, and her many cats over the years. She also liked keeping up with current events by reading books, the newspaper, and doing their crossword puzzles.
Helen was a friendly, pleasant, and strong willed woman, who always knew what she wanted. She will be missed by her loving family.
Her graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday May 2, 2026 at Evergreen Cemetery, West St. Douglas.
