Bellingham- Gerard J. “Jerry” Wight, 81, longtime Bellingham resident, passed away peacefully on Sat. March 25, 2023 after an illness.
He is survived by a son John and his wife Leah Wight of Douglas; a daughter Charlotte “Sherry” Collamati and her husband Joseph III of N. Smithfield;
7 Grandchildren Patricia Hartland, Jaimie and her husband Jeff Curran, Kari Wight, Gerard J. III and his wife Catherine Wight, Teresa Wight, Adam and his wife Jackie Collamati, and Megan Collamati; 3 great grandchildren; his former wife Charlotte (Bezanson) Wight; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Gerard J. Wight II and was brother of the late John H. Wight and James N. Wight.
Born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada on April 14, 1941 he was the son of William A. and Annie Grace (Murphy) Wight and lived in Bellingham over 50 years. He emigrated from Canada to the United States when he was 18 years old.
Mr. Wight worked as a heavy-duty mechanic and truck driver. He previously owned and operated his own businesses, Wight and Sons Trucking and Jerry’s Auto Repair
Educated in the Georgetown public school system, enjoyed boating on the North River in Marshfield and the Mystic River in Medford. He was a Harley Davidson enthusiast and enjoyed RVing locally and in Canada.
