Born in Milford on December 12, 1939 George was the son of Frederick F. and Dorica (LeFrances) Thompson and grew up in Uxbridge. He was educated in the Uxbridge Public School system and was drafted immediately following. A proud U.S. Army veteran, George was stationed in Hawaii as a Specialist 4th class and specialized in maintenance mechanics. After his discharge in 1959, he continued on as a heavy equipment mechanic. Afterward, he returned home to Uxbridge and was a successful entrepreneur who owned and operated several trucking companies, including a company called Transport Maintenance where he repaired heavy equipment on job sites. In his retirement, he owned and operated Scoops Ice Cream in Upton.
Mr. Thompson was a hard worker and enjoyed tinkering, especially with his many cars and trucks, most recently his 1977 Chevy truck. He enjoyed attending local car shows. George was a daily patron of St.’s General Store, where he enjoyed coffee, the lottery, and the companionship of his friends. He also loved traveling, going cross country in his truck, and vacations to Aruba. A mostly quiet man, George will be missed by his family and friends.
