Douglas – George E. “Sumo” Schultheiss, 56, passed away on Sun. Feb. 12, 2017 at RI Hosp. after being stricken ill.
He is survived by his wife and love of his life of 18 years, Linda S. (Bryda) Schultheiss; his two daughters Laurel M. and Marlee R. Schultheiss; his brother Arthur H. Schultheiss of Doylestown, PA; 3 sisters Patricia M. Pattison and her husband Keith of Fort Worth, TX, Elizabeth J. Schultheiss of Saratoga Springs, NY, Dorothy M. “Dolly” Stadelmann and her husband Paul of Cincinatti, OH; nieces and nephews, Cole, Ethan, Christine, Stephanie, Julianne, A.J., Keith, Danny, Katie, Ellie, and Luke; many dear friends; and his beloved dogs. Born in New York, NY on June 21, 1960 he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Dorothy M. (Craven) Schultheiss and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in New York.
Sumo was a graduate of WPI, class of 1983, earning his Mechanical Engineering degree. He went on to work for the Dept. of Defense at the U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center in Natick in the Ballistic Protection Dept. engineering and designing protective gear, armored vehicles, and shelters. George was a fun-loving, outgoing, friendly person and loved life to the fullest. Music being his passion, he attended countless Grateful Dead concerts and played the bass guitar in his own band. He also enjoyed fresh water fishing and was an avid golfer, hoping to teach the game in his later years.
His funeral will be held from Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas on Thurs. Feb. 16 with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St. Cremation will follow. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held on Wed.
