George Richard Obituary

Manchaug – George J. Richard, 74, passed away at St. Vincent Hosp. on Sun. Jan. 22, 2017 after a brief illness.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Betty A. (Richards) Richard; 3 daughters Lynne M. Anderson and her husband Carl of Sutton, Patricia A. Bessette and her husband Joseph of Manchaug, and Vicki A. Bessette and her husband Paul of Manchaug; 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Robert Richard and his wife Janice of Douglas, Ernest Richard and his wife Diane of Manchaug, and Roland Richard and his wife Rose of Douglas; many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.  He was predeceased by a sister Theresa Cahill and 2 brothers Wilfred Richard and Raymond Richard.  Born in the Manchaug section of Sutton on May 3, 1942, he was the son of the late Roland and Antoinette (Ouillette) Richard and has lived here all his life.
George worked for Rosenfeld Bros. Concrete in Milford as a truck repairman for 23 years retiring due to illness.  He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the town of Sutton beginning at age 16 and served for over 25 years, finishing his career at Lieutenant.
Being very family oriented, George cherished his family more than anything.  He enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren and being the “taxi driver” for all of them. He enjoyed many summers vacationing at Hampton Beach and Cape Cod with his children.  He loved the ocean, fishing year round and 4-wheeling.  Always the joker, he relished in telling bad jokes to his grandchildren just to get a laugh.  Friday nights were spent with “the guys” around the table playing pitch or cribbage, having a high ball, and telling stories.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
His funeral will be held from Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas on Fri. Jan. 27 with a Mass in St. Denis Church at 11:30 a.m.  Burial will follow in St. Denis Cemetery.  Calling hour at the funeral home will be held on Fri. Jan. 27 from 9 – 11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to the Sutton Fire Dept.
