Uxbridge—Elizabeth “Betty” T. (Tierney) Brennan, 92, of Williams Street, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 2, 2026, following a period of declining health.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Anne B. Caffarelli and her husband, Joseph, of Uxbridge, with whom she resided, along with three of her grandchildren: Jacqueline (Jackie), Jessica, and Joey Caffarelli.
She is also survived by two sons, John Brennan and his wife, Lisa, of Walpole, and Louis Brennan and his wife, Patsy, of Dedham; her grandchildren, Michael Brennan, Timothy Walsh, and Glynnis and John Brennan; and her great-grandchildren, Charlie Hastings and Sam, Lydia, and Abby Walsh. She is further survived by her sister, Anne Dolan, and her husband, Edward, of Dedham; her brother-in-law, Daniel Madden, of Hopedale; many nieces and nephews; and her longtime caretaker and dear friend, Sophia.
Betty was predeceased by her son Timothy in 1978 and daughter Eleanor in 1985, after whose deaths she became very active in Pieta, a group that supports parents who have lost children. Her brother Joseph Tierney and sister Jean Madden also predeceased her.
Born in Boston on September 27, 1933, Betty was the daughter of Joseph and Alvina (Obey) Tierney. She grew up in Boston, later moved to Duxbury, and spent several years in Chicago, Illinois, before returning to the Boston area. She was educated in the Boston public school system and continued her education at Northeastern University, where she was certified in medical technology, and worked as a medical technologist at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston for 21 years until her retirement in 1994. She lived in Uxbridge since 1999, having previously resided in Roslindale for many years.
A woman of great faith, Betty was a former parishioner of St. Mary’s in Dedham, where she sang in the choir, and more recently belonged to St. Mary Parish in Uxbridge, where she taught catechism. She was talented and creative, enjoying ceramics and painting, and she loved reading, crossword puzzles, and watching Hallmark movies. She also enjoyed music—especially classical selections—was an avid sports fan, loved the ocean, and delighted in every shade of lipstick. She was a fountain of knowledge and always seemed to know just the right thing to say. Her doctors at Brigham & Women’s Hospital referred to her as a “treasure,” and she was known for her warm spirit, distinctive style, and wonderful sense of humor.
Betty was a sweet woman and a wonderful mother who will be deeply missed by her adoring family.
Her Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name Church, West Roxbury, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 8th, followed by burial at The Gardens at Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury.
