Douglas- Edward J. “Ricky” Valliere Jr., 87, formerly of NW Main St., passed away peacefully on Sun., Oct. 2, 2022 at Webster Manor Rest Home, where he had been a resident the past two years. He was preceded in death by his adored wife of 56 years, Helen M. (Manyak) Valliere, who died in 2015.
He is survived by a daughter, Deborah A. Jones of Putnam, CT; 2 granddaughters, Pamela Jones, and Kristine Brown and her husband Tylor of Woodstock, CT; 3 grandsons, Brian Valliere and his wife Ashley of Douglas, Matthew Valliere and his wife Katie of Belchertown, MA, and Justin Valliere of CA; 2 great-grandchildren Michael Valliere, and Ursa Koerten; nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was also predeceased by his son Michael P. Valliere; son-in-law, David Jones; sister, Anna Cupka, and brother Paul Valliere.
Born in Douglas on Aug. 11, 1935 he was the son of Edward J. Sr. and Stacia (Poplawski) Valliere and was a lifelong Douglas resident. Ricky worked as an asphalt truck driver for several area companies for many years. A graduate of Douglas Memorial High School he served seven years in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He proudly wore his uniform for many Veteran’s Day parades in Douglas.
He and his wife Helen enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, trips to the Cape, and gardening. He was also an avid bear and deer hunter with his son Michael. He was a member of Singletary Rod and Gun Club where he enjoyed having a beer with his longtime friends. He also enjoyed having coffee with the regulars at the Goodness Store. He was a member of St. Denis Church.
His calling hours will be held on Thurs. Oct. 6th from 4 to 6 p.m. in Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas. Military honors for Ricky will be held at 6 pm. To leave a condolence message for his family, please visit www.jackmanfuneralhomes.com
