Edward Plante Obituary

Sutton- Edward J. Plante, 87, of Main St. in the Manchaug section of Sutton died Fri. Oct. 22, 2021 at Blackstone Valley Health and Rehab after a period of declining health. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Bernice L. “Bernie” (Brown) Plante in 2019.

        Ed is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews; brother in-laws, Ronald J. Brown and his wife Donna of Sutton, and Roger Thibodeau of Charlestown, SC. Born in Whitinsville, MA on June 14, 1934, he was the son of William and Leonie (Picard) Plante and grew up in Sutton and lived here all his life. 

       Mr. Plante was educated at Good Shepherd School in Linwood, and Worcester Boys Trade in Worcester. He worked several years for the former Whitin Machine Works as a pattern maker. As a Union Carpenter, and later as a cabinet maker for several local companies, Ed also worked many years for W.J. Larrivee Co. in S. Grafton. A proud Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, Ed was awarded the Bronze Star among other awards for his heroic service. 

        A man of great faith, Eddy was a longtime, active parishioner of St. Mark’s Church in Sutton. In his free time, Ed built beautiful furniture for the former St. Anne’s Church in Manchaug and for St. Mark’s Church as well as for family and friends. He loved gardening in his backyard, travel, and the Boston Red Sox. He and his wife Bernie volunteered yearly at the Millbury/ Sutton Chain of Light’s Christmas Celebration. They were well known and well loved.

      Calling hours at Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas will be held on Wed. Oct. 27th from 9- 10 AM followed by a Mass at St. Mark’s Church, 356 Boston Rd., Sutton at 10:30. Burial will follow in St. Denis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory may be made to: St. Mark’s Church, 356 Boston Rd. Sutton, MA 01590.
