Dorothy M. “Dottie” (Gove) Vaillancourt, 91, of Main St. passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, March 31, 2025. Her husband of 26 years, Maurice J. Vaillancourt died on June 5, 1993.
She leaves her two sons, Michael M. Vaillancourt and his wife Barbara of Yorktown, VA, their two children Zachary and Lauren, and John P. Vaillancourt of Douglas and his four children Brittani, Paige, Mary, and Owen. She also leaves behind her two sisters, Louise Lefort, and Barbara and her husband Ronald Vaillancourt. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Louise (Gevry) and Herbert Gove.
Dorothy was born in Douglas, MA on October 16, 1933 and graduated from Douglas Memorial High School. She then graduated from The Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, now UMass Memorial Health Care and the Harrisburg Hospital School of Enterostomal Therapy in Harrisburg, PA. She was employed by the Memorial Hospital in Worcester for 43 years. For the last 20 years of her career, she specialized in wound, ostomy, and incontinence care. She was the first certified wound, ostomy and incontinence Care nurse in Worcester and encouraged many other nurses in Worcester hospitals to become certified in this specialty of nursing. In 1995 she was awarded “Outstanding ET Nurse of the Year” by members of the New England Region Wound, Ostomy & Continence Nurses Society.
Dorothy was also Choir Director and organist at St. Denis Church for twenty-five years. She was a member of the St. Denis Catholic Women’s Council and a member of the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association.
Her Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 10th at 11 AM in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St. Cremation burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours at Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St. are Wednesday, April 9th from 5-7 PM. Memorial donations in Dottie’s memory may be made to St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St. Douglas, MA 01516.
