Uxbridge- Donald G. Bigwood, 95, of Rivulet St. passed away peacefully on Mon Jan. 17, 2022 at Blackstone Valley Health Center after a period of declining health. His wife of 61 years Theresa M. (Roy) Bigwood died Sept. 9, 2009.
He is survived by his daughter, Rosemary C. Voss and her husband Lawrence of Uxbridge; 2 grandchildren, Justin G. Voss of Uxbridge and Alyssa M. Voss and her husband Bryan M. Orosz of Gaithersburg, MD; a brother, James Bigwood, and a sister Helene Hill both of Winchendon; and several nieces and nephews. Born in Orange, MA on May 18, 1926, Don was the son of Ralph and Sarah (Parmenter) Bigwood. He lived in Uxbridge 76 years, previously living in Winchendon.
Don worked as a molder in the foundry at the former Whitin Machine Works for 36 years. He then worked in security at Digital Equipment Co. for several years, retiring in 1994. A proud WWII U.S. Navy veteran, Don served aboard a submarine in the South Pacific from 1944-1946, earning his way into the United States Submarine Veterans Holland Club. He was a member of the Mendon Lion’s Club and Good Shepherd Parish of Linwood, MA. Don was an avid golfer, often hitting the green at Raceway Golf Club at 5 a.m. to beat the crowds. Don also enjoyed traveling and meeting new people with the Lion’s Pin Traders Club and kept in touch with his fellow traders across the world well into his 90s.
His funeral service will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022, at 11 AM in Tancrell Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd., Uxbridge. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 9-11 AM.
