Diana Caswell Obituary

Douglas- Diana M. (Allen) Caswell, 69, of the Riddlebrook apartments, formerly of Cedar St., passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2024 at the Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge where she had been a resident the past year.

       She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Jonathan E. Caswell. She is also survived by 3 brothers, Walter Allen and his wife Mallory of Gold Hill, NC, David Allen and his wife Sharon of NC, and Joseph Allen of Johnsburg, NY. She was predeceased by a brother James “Jim” Allen. 

       Born in Johnsburg, NY on September 8, 1954 Diana was the daughter of Gerald and Elsie (Putnam) Allen and grew up in the Johnsburg area. She was a graduate of North Creek High School, and furthered her education at Wesleyan College in Easton, PA where she received a degree in Christian education and missions.

       She led a life of great faith which steered her to teaching Sunday school, singing in the church choir, and was very involved in the Woman’s Society. Her generosity and kindness also extended outside her church family to other Christian churches and their charities and missions. This led her to meet her husband Jonathan who was also living in New York at the time, and whom started as a pen pal in 1988. They were married in 1989 and settled in Douglas, moving to Jonathan’s family cottage on Cedar Street. They are longtime members of Douglas’s First Congregational Church. 

       Diana worked over the years as a Home Health Aide for the Greater Milford Area VNA. To start a new path, she furthered her education attending the Salter School in Worcester to learn computer accounting. Due to injuries sustained in automobile accidents, Diana was forced into early retirement in 1998. 

       Diana was an avid reader, she also enjoyed flower gardening over the years and had many of house plants, she also enjoyed painting. She had great interest in history and was even writing her own family history. She was a skilled crocheter, making many baby blankets and gifts for people over the years. She will be remembered as a sweet, kind, and giving woman by all who knew her. 

       Services in memory of Diana will be held on Saturday, August 10th at 11 AM in The First Congregational Church of Douglas, 3 Common St., Doug.
