Douglas- David Winslow Gibson, 63, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at home after battling with pancreatic cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Martha A. (Ellison) Gibson; two daughters, Julie Rose Gibson, who lives in DC, and Samantha Rae Gibson currently studying at Bridgewater State University; Son in law, Chris Santry, his beloved dog Ember, and his grandcat Lucy. He’s also survived by two siblings, William “Bill” Gibson and his wife Erica of Petaluma, CA, and Marianne Martin of Auburn; nieces and nephews, David Gibson, Jennifer Campagne, Ben Martin, Jimmy Martin, and Emily Martin.
Born in Boston on August 4, 1959, David was son of the late Frederick P. and Judith (Pierce) Gibson, grew up in Needham, and lived in Douglas the past 23 years. He was a graduate of Needham High School, Class of 1977 and furthered his education at the University of Maine earning a degree in Wildlife Management, Class of 1981. David enjoyed vacationing with his family at his cabin in the Berkshires, hunting and fishing, and identifying animal sounds and prints. He was an avid birdwatcher, making sure the local birds were fed year round. In his younger years he played in hockey and softball leagues, and was a huge New England Patriots fan.
Always a hard worker, David was a manager working for Chemlawn, Sears Carpet Cleaning, LeafGuard Gutter Systems, and most recently for Pilot Travel Center in Sturbridge. He also owned and operated his own landscaping business, Black Bear Landscaping, for many years.
Above all, he was a family man, a great husband, and was very proud of his two girls. He will be forever missed.
